“Burn It All Down (She Tried)”
Fierce, fearless, and driven by a deeply personal grievance — flogged by Roman officials and her daughters assaulted following her husband's death, she turned that fury into one of the largest uprisings the Roman Empire ever faced.
Editor's note Boudicca is understood to have approved fully of We Will Rock You, requesting it be played at maximum volume before battle, and to have regarded London Calling with the particular satisfaction of someone who got there roughly nineteen hundred years first.
The seven
- 01Run the World (Girls) — Beyoncé (2011)Led an army of multiple British tribes into open revolt against the most powerful military force on earth. The title is barely an exaggeration.
- 02Survivor — Destiny's Child (2001)Suffered horrific personal injustice at Roman hands and channelled it into burning down three major Roman settlements, including Londinium.
- 03Headstrong — Trapt (2002)Refused every offer of Roman compromise after her treatment, choosing total war instead of quiet submission.
- 04Warrior — Kesha (2012)Roman historian Cassius Dio described her as tall, fierce-eyed, and terrifying to behold while addressing her assembled army.
- 05We Will Rock You — Queen (1977)The thunderous, communal stomp of this track is exactly the energy of tens of thousands of tribal warriors marching on Roman settlements.
- 06Praying — Kesha (2017)A song explicitly about reclaiming power after profound personal violation — written two thousand years after her circumstances but unmistakably for her.
- 07London Calling — The Clash (1979)She is, quite literally, the only historical figure who can claim to have actually answered this call by burning the city to the ground.
