“Fifteen Men On A Dead Man's Playlist”
Charismatic, cunning, and entirely untrustworthy in the most likeable way possible. He switches sides with the wind, quotes proverbs constantly, and genuinely seems fond of young Jim Hawkins even while plotting against him.
Editor's note Long John Silver listened to this playlist while polishing a coin that wasn't entirely his to keep, declared AC/DC 'a fine shanty for the modern age,' and attempted unsuccessfully to convince the editor he deserved a larger share of any resulting royalties.
The seven
- 01I'm Still Standing — Elton John (1983)Lost a leg, survived a mutiny, switched allegiances at least three times, and still walked away with a share of the treasure.
- 02Centerfold — The J. Geils Band (1981)A man who can charm an entire crew of hardened criminals into trusting him implicitly, repeatedly, against all their own judgement.
- 03I Won't Back Down — Tom Petty (1989)Negotiates his own survival to the very last page through sheer charismatic stubbornness.
- 04Ho Hey — The Lumineers (2012)Has an actual sea shanty energy and the kind of rough warmth that makes you forget he's plotting against you.
- 05Renegade — Styx (1978)Wanted by the law, charming to the end, slips away into legend rather than facing the gallows.
- 06Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap — AC/DC (1976)Honestly explains his entire professional career as a pirate quartermaster without further commentary needed.
- 07How Much Is That Doggie in the Window — Patti Page (1953)He owns a parrot named Captain Flint that he treats with more open affection than most of his human crew. The joke writes itself.
